Mission Manzanita. It’s pretty rare to find Mission Manzanitas seedlings now days. Most come from underground burls. In other words, some may look like seedlings, but can actually be pretty old compared to what you may think. In this episode of living wild, California Chaparral Institute’s Director, Rick Halsey, goes on a mission in search for Mission Manzanita seedlings. This is Zoolander from the California Wolf Center. He is a Northern Gray Wolf. They are now enlisted as an endangered species within the state of California. There used to be no more wild wolves in California until OR-7 traveled with 3 pups from Yellowstone and into parts of Northern California.
Here’s a photo that one of our Chaparralians, Nathan, took at the California Wolf Center. This is a Northern Gray Wolf, the species they used to introduce wolves back into Yellowstone. They have been listed an endangered species in California and have been seen traveling into parts of Northern California. OR-7 has been spotted in Northern California raising 3 pups.
For those who may not know, we have been facing an incredible amount of fire here in Southern California. Here are some photos taken by our young chaparralian Robby Guy. Lets hope that all this fire will end soon. Many homes and animal habitat have been lost. Even a few lives.
